Dr Jose F. Toledo, DVM
Dr. Toledo, Chief of Staff and owner of Southland Animal Hospital & Boarding was born and raised in Mexico. He attended University of Veracruz, where he earned his degree as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics in Mexico, and received his D.V.M. in 1986. Dr. Toledo practiced small and large animal medicine in the central area of Mexico for 3 years. He then came to the United States where he received full accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to practice Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Before buying Southland Animal Hospital, Dr. Toledo worked in private clinics as well as in a corporate hospital. He is married to Annette, and has two beautiful children, together with 5 dogs, named Batman, Felix, Trixie, Champ and May, all rescued. He enjoys running, mountain biking, racquetball and spending precious time with his kids and wife.
Holds the essential position as office manager at Southland Animal Hospital, and has had more than 10 years of experience in the veterinary field. She has attended multiple times Veterinary Conferences like the NAVC, FVRC Symposium, Patterson University and she is a member of the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association. Madai remembers having a natural calling to join the veterinary world since childhood. Photography, clay and worship are some of the many ways she expresses herself and unwinds. She is part of Miami Rescue Mission through Forward Fellowship Church. Most of her heart is taken by her rescued Poodle named "Squishy" . She was born and raised in Puerto Rico and speaks English, Spanish, and is currently studying American Sign Language.
Born in Brooklyn, New York Gloria Oquendo moved to Miami in 1992. Since the young age of 6, shes always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. She hopes to pursue a career in the veterinary field and is grateful for the experience and knowledge she consistently gains at Southland Animal Hospital- where she has been working since December 2016. She is a member of the Humane Society and the ASPCA. As for her own furry babies, she has 2 cats, a cat named Walter White, and a Siamese mix named Marilyn Monroe. On her free time, she enjoys reading, going to the gym and spending time with her 8 year old daughter, Angelina.
Claudia came to Miami from Chile in 1999. Her passion for animals began in 2010, when she obtained a kennel position in a boarding/ grooming facility, where she quickly became manager. She has done volunteer work at MDAS and is part of the Florida Small Animal Rescue Coalition (Emergency Response). She has 3 dogs, a cat and a bunny who occupy most of her heart. During her free time she loves to support local artists and nature activities.
Alexis is a native of Havana, Cuba, and emigrated to United States in 2015, started working with us practically right after arriving to Miami,
performing maintenance duties according to our facilities needs. He has recently taken on more responsibilities, such as a Veterinary assistant.
His plans are to eventually bloom into a Veterinary Technician. Alexis has a parakeet named Moti. He enjoys his time off dancing Salsa, cycling, and painting.
Hector started working with us as a volunteer from a program that Miami-Dade Public Schools offer to its students. His love and passion for animals has made him a valuable employee now for Southland, and he has bloomed from a volunteer to a Veterinary Assistant. He plans to attend now college and eventually to be accepted in Veterinary school, and follow his dream to become a Veterinarian. He spends his free time with his dog Paullenta and likes to play soccer in the local league, with his friends and family.
Dr. Toledo, Chief of Hospital, and the employees outlined above are the only individuals that represent the Southland Animal Hospital Team.
